Athanasia Kotronia is a Greek/Swedish composer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is currently studying under Bent Sørensen and Jeppe Just Christensen in the soloist (postgraduate) program at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM), from which she will graduate in 2026. She has previously studied with Niels Rosing-Schow, Hans Peter Stubbe Teglbjærg, and Mattias Lysell, and has also taken classes with Sven-David Sandström, Liza Lim, and Rune Glerup, among others.

She is enrolled in the artistic research program, working on a project that explores prose and poetry within music. The project is based on using text as a creative tool for both vocal compositions and purely instrumental works. The final project will be presented during the autumn semester of 2026 at RDAM.

Athanasia Kotronia has worked with a number of ensembles, including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Vocal Ensemble, Nordic Voices, the Esbjerg Ensemble, Norrbotten NEO, Ensemble YARN/WIRE, and Ensemble K!ART.

Her works have been performed at a range of festivals, including KLANG Festival (DK), Time of Music (FI), Oremandsgaard Kammermusikfestival (DK), Kammermusik i Præstø (DK), Festival des Combins (CH), Ung Nordisk Musik (NO), and the Pulsar Festival (DK).

In 2024 Athanasia Kotronia was one of the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize Recipients.
